Gerard Beirne began farming at Berlin Orchards in 1994, managing the growth of the fruit for Mr. O'Brien until 2006. Although the farm store and much of the farm land was sold in 2006, Gerard and Sheila bought the remaining orchard land and continue the tradition of growing quality fruit.

Community Orchards offer an excellent place for people to relax, work and learn. They are a way of reviving an interest in traditional horticultural skills as well as enabling people to engage with nature and gain an understanding of where their food comes from.

A grove is a small group of trees with minimal or no undergrowth, such as a sequoia grove, or a small orchard planted for the cultivation of fruits or nuts.

An orchard is an intentional plantation of trees or shrubs that is maintained for food production. Orchards comprise fruit- or nut-producing trees that are generally grown for commercial production. Orchards are also sometimes a feature of large gardens, where they serve an aesthetic as well as a productive purpose.
